The minimal requirements for admission to any graduate
program at UCLA are:
- a Baccalaureate degree
- for the M.S. in Engineering program, it is expected
that the applicant has a degree in engineering, computer science,
mathematics, physics, chemistry, or the equivalent.
- a GPA of 3.0 in the last two years of undergraduate
work.
Often, applicants are admitted even if item (3) is
not met. For example, an applicant may be admitted if:
- (a) the applicant has been out of school for some
time and her/his work experience is strongly relevant for the
chosen area-of-study
- (b) the applicant has good grades in graduate
courses
- (c) the applicant’s references indicate
the potential of the applicant
- (d) etc.
GRE scores are not required. However, you may submit recent or past scores to enhance your application.
Application Evaluation:
The faculty associated with the applicant’s
chosen area-of-study (specialization) generally evaluate applicants
based upon:
- (e) the applicant’s course work in courses
related to the chosen area-of-study
- (f) the applicant’s work experience in relation
to the chosen area-of-study
- (g) the applicant’s Statement of Purpose
- (h) the applicant’s recommendations.
GRE scores have the lowest order of importance; also,
the faculty are cognizant of the additional burden this examination
places upon employed professionals.
With respect to your Statement of Purpose, make sure
to describe your purpose in applying for graduate study. In particular,
describe the relationship between your chosen area-of-study and
your current or future employment. Include any additional information
that may aid in the evaluation of your preparation for graduate
study at UCLA.
